Consultant’s Corner – Bill Tandy

An Inside Look into the Lives of Huntzinger Consultants

Role
I am a Client Executive within the Huntzinger organization, primarily functioning in the role of Interim Chief Information Officer for client health organizations. As a Client Executive, I am the liaison between Huntzinger and our clients, coordinating the needs of both parties. Developing trusted relationships enables me too understand clients’ issues and business strategies. From that, I craft the proposed processes and resources needed to help them accomplish their goals.

Time at Huntzinger
I recently celebrated my six-year anniversary as part of the Huntzinger organization. The majority of my work effort within Huntzinger has been as an Interim CIO.

Time in Healthcare IT
My career working in healthcare has spanned more than 35 years. I started working in technology at an academic medical center, and since that beginning have had the opportunity to work in multiple health organizations of various size and mission. Most of this time has been in the CIO role. Functioning as an Interim CIO has given me the privilege of experiencing a variety of different health organization types, and provided me the opportunity to work within these diverse structures to develop and lead their IT strategies.

What was Your Most Recent Assignment?
Most recently I worked at UPMC Pinnacle Hanover as the interim CIO. Hanover is an active community-based hospital that merged with the Pinnacle Health System last year. While engaged at Hanover, I served on the Executive Leadership team leading all aspects of IT operations.

What is Your Domain Strength?
My primary strengths lie in developing trusted relationships with my clients. To accomplish this, I have to demonstrate the capability to consistently deliver against defined expectations and participate in development of plans supporting the needs of the organization. I have always maintained that technology is essentially the media needed to improve the capabilities of health organizations in their health delivery role and in helping them achieve their business needs. My 35-plus years in the industry gives me a broad perspective on addressing these critical issues.

What are Your Hobbies?
I love to spend as much time as possible with my family. My career path has necessitated I spend a great deal of time on the road working at client sites. While I have enjoyed the experience of working at numerous clients across the country, it also means that I am spending a lot of time away from home and family. Believe it or not, even with my extensive travel for business, I greatly enjoy exploring different places with my wife and family. I used to golf, but don’t have as much time as I’d like to do that now, so I’ve put that on hold for a while. Maybe someday I will get back to that!
