An Inside Look into the Lives of Huntzinger Consultants
I’m a Client Executive. I stay involved with our clients on a day-to-day basis to help take care of their needs. The frequent interaction with clients keeps me sharp and I like bringing fresh ideas to them.
Time at Huntzinger
A little over eight years.
Time in Healthcare IT
I started working in healthcare IT as a programmer in 1983. I worked on implementing patient accounting, pharma, lab and other systems, and I also wrote interfaces. There was a lot more custom programming back then.
I became a consultant for a firm a couple years after that job, then I began doing level two and three support for IBM – working to fix or redesign systems, and I did some new product development.
Later, I helped run Superior Consultant Company, and eventually became president and COO. Superior eventually grew to 1,500 consultants. I liked the work, I but missed working directly with hospitals and physicians to solve their problems. After I left Superior I again worked directly with hospitals. At first, my work focused on technology, but now I focus more on workflow efficiencies and cultural changes.
What was Your Most Recent Assignment?
I’m currently working at Asquam Community Health Collaborative, a joint collaborative between LRGHealthcare and Speare Memorial Hospital in New Hampshire. The two organizations share a Cerner platform, which is a situation that I haven’t worked on before. I help both organizations solve common problems so they’re on the same page, in terms of their Cerner usage.
What is Your Domain Strength?
I’m good at facilitation and consensus building. When it comes to bolting together solutions, I always have suggestions on how the client can make it a comprehensive solution.
What are Your Hobbies?
When I get the time, there are several things that I enjoy doing. I used to like to run, and in general I get a thrill from exercising. I also like playing music. I play the guitar and drums and I’m trying to teach myself the piano. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my grandkids. I have two in Chicago, and three grandchildren in Atlanta.
